About the Design Library Image Collection
The Collection
The Design Library has over 52,000 digital images covering art, architecture, landscape architecture, industrial design, and graphic design available for teaching, research, and study. These images can be accessed through the online Design Library
Image Collection.
For help understanding and using the database, see our guide.
The image collection also has over 80,000 35mm slides available. The easiest way to locate
the slides is through the online database.
If there are images you would like to see added to the collection,
do not hesitate to contact Barbara Brenny, the Visual
Resources Librarian or any Design Library staff. Also visit
the Image Requests page for more information.
Our Mission
The overall goal is to shift the image collection from the traditionally slide-based model
to a robust online digital image library. We are moving toward a faculty-driven image
collection that is fully representative of all of the disciplines in the college. Accomplishing
this will require input and image requests from faculty in all departments.
We are working to provide high-quality digital images and better tools to facilitate access.
Providing our patrons with the support necessary to organize digital images and display them in
the classroom is also one of our top priorities.
Use of the Collection
Access to the Image Collection, both digital images and slides, is limited
to the North Carolina State University community. Only faculty, staff,
and students have access to these resources. Slides may be checked out
at the Design Library circulation desk. The loan period on slides is
one week for faculty and one day for students. Overdue notices are emailed weekly.

to NCSU students, faculty, and staff. The physical slides of the Design
Library Image Collection of the NCSU Libraries are not available for loan
