Usability Research Lab
The Usability Research Laboratory (URL) is located on the 2nd Floor, East
Wing of D.H. Hill Library. The lab is equipped for recording video, audio,
and computer activity for observation and analysis. Usability tests of
online library services and applications are conducted in the lab. Access
to the lab is also provided to NCSU faculty, staff, and students involved
in usability testing.

Room Layout
The Lab consists of a testing area for recording participant
activity. There is space for facilators or observers to be present
in the room during testing. Remote observation, from a computer in the
Learning Commons connected to the test machine via IP, is also supported.
Software
The Lab is equipped with Morae Software (TechSmith)
to record any of the following elements during a usability testing session:
- Real-time desktop screen capture
- Audio & video of the participant
- Advanced data collection including mouse clicks, keyboard input and screen text
